The undulating subalpine world west of Ljubljana is known for its sharp peaks, wonderful views, and diverse vegetation. You can enjoy them from various Medvode trails. The first trail begins across Golo Brdo (Gostilna Slavkov dom), from where you continue on foot toward Katarina. The second trail leads further on across Žlebe (Church of Sv. Marjeta, built in 1511) and from there on foot to Katarina and then to the Polhov Gradec Dolomites. If you wish to get to the heart of the Polhov Gradec Dolomites by car, the right direction is Medvode-Sora-Katarina. The road takes you to the village of Topol, where you can leave the car and set out on foot to different peaks. Take the shady trail to the foot of Grmada, which is the easiest to reach from there. In May, the Blagay daphne (Daphne Blagayana) blooms on its slopes. One way back, stop by at Gonte open-door tourist farm. If you are still not tired, you can ascend Tošč (1,021 m), the highest peak of the Polhov Gradec hills, in about half an hour.
Depending on which one you climb, there is a wonderful view of the Škofja Loka Hills, the Kamniške-Savinjske Alps, Sorško polje, the Ljubljana Basin and the Notranjska region from the peaks of Osolnik, Govejek, Grmada, Tošč, Jakob, and Jeterbenk in the Polhov Gradec Dolomites. Another beautiful and pleasant excursion point is Mount Katarina.
