Radeče

Although the battles did not reach it, the small parish of Svibno suffered immensely during World War I. According to some sources Svibno was among Slovenian parishes that suffered most victims during this war.
A memorial to honour the villagers of Svibno who died in WWI was erected in 1928 on the initiative of a local teacher Ivan Pecnik and the newly founded Association of Fighters, led by Hinko Medved. While the painting and the board with engraved names of 32 deceased (some names are actually missing) were made by foreign artists, the honour to design the memorial was assigned to a local artist, Franc Kljucevsek. The inauguration and benediction of the memorial followed next spring.
Memorial was erected on a carefully chosen place in the vicinity of the Church of the Holly Cross just below Castle Hill.
