Apart from the 20th century architect Jože Plečnik, it was Baroque masters that left a decisive mark on the architectural appearance of Ljubljana. The old city centre boasts numerous buildings with Baroque facades, arcaded courtyards and arched staircases. Also the majority of churches in Ljubljana were either built or – after the earthquake of 1511 – rebuilt in Baroque style. Some of the jewels in the crown of the Baroque Ljubljana are the works from the oeuvre of the Venetian-born sculptor Francesco Robba, which include the famous Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers, which was built in front of the Town Hall, one of the most notable examples of Baroque architecture in Ljubljana.
Duration: 2 hours.
Languages: Slovenian, English, Italian, French and German.
