The underground waters of the Unica, fed by other inflows, come to the light of day in several springs on the edge of the Ljubljansko barje (marshes) near Vrhnika. Thus, as soon as it is born, the Ljubljanica is a powerful river with abundant water. It has a very small drop as far as Ljubljana and having an average depth of more than four metres it is more reminiscent of a lazy lowland river than a rich Karst water. The dark green river, surrounded by plentiful bank-side vegetation, which enables good fishing especially from a boat, hides trout, grayling and huchen, as well as Danube roach, chub and pike. Every year, several trophy individuals of these species are caught.
