It is suitable for everyone and there are also many resting points along the way, where you will be able to take a break, get interesting information or learn about the history of the railway.
Presentation of a part of the bike path between Izola and Sečovlje
Join the bike path in Izola. On the Leninova and Prešernova street crossroad proceed towards the hills in the hinterland and soon you will notice a bike path sign. Turn right in the direction towards Strunjan and Portorož. The signs usually lead us well along the path, which is diversified but not demanding. Soon you will notice the Šalet Tunnel (214 m), which is equipped with lights. Follow the bike path signs that will lead your way among vineyards and plantations, in the direction of Portorož, passing Dobrava, Strunjan, all the way to the 550-metre-long Valeta Tunnel, which is illuminated as well. Then proceed downhill towards Lucija, passing the camp leading to Forma Viva, which can be reached with a slight ascent. Continue your way through Seča (where you cross the main road) and Parecag, until you come to Sečovlje. From here, you can proceed towards Croatia.
The tunnel for the former narrow gauge railway Trieste – Poreč in Jagodje was built at the beginning of the 20th century and it is completely covered in blocks of hewed local stone. It is 244 meters long.
The railway line Parenzana was abolished in August 1935. After that the tunnel served as a warehouse, mushroom-growing tunnel, etc. Nowadays the tunnel is renovated, illuminated, and turned into a Path of health and friendship for walks or cycling.
