As Triglav represents a holy mountain to Slovenians, so is Krn a popular spot especially for western Slovenians.

One can start the way to Krn already in the valley, but it is nicer to take advantage of the road that leads to the Kuhinja mountain pasture through villages exposed to the sun on the slope of the mighty mountain. From the renovated mountain hut you can  follow the road to Leskovce mountain pasture and ascend the path into an interesting valley surrounded on the left with the coloured walls of  Rdeči rob (the Red Ridge). When the valley turns around Maselnik, behind a small dip one can see the little Lužnica Lake, which brings the stone valley to life. Through it we can reach the saddle under Batognica.

The path leading across the summit, which has had its image entirely changed during the last century due to numerous grenades, mining, trench digging and caverns at the Isonzo front, is the most beautiful. We descend to Krn notch along the carved out stairs and from there lies Krn (2244 m) with a shelter immediately below the peak like on the palm of the hand.

The descent from the viewing peak is much shorter, as the path along the grassy south slope leads us to the famous Kuhinja alpine pasture.
