From a tourist point of view, Šentanska dolina Valley is also interesting because of the Born path to Preval. The path leads us to the Ljubelj border pass along a macadam road which follows the main road. On our way we can view the Memorial Park of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp which was the only concentration camp on Slovenian soil during WWII. The French, Polish, Russians and Yugoslavs were imprisoned there and, in impossible conditions, hollowed out a 1.5 km long tunnel through solid rock, connecting the former Yugoslavia with Austria.
In the immediate vicinity there is also Gostišče Koren with an adrenaline park, different sports playgrounds and an artificial climbing wall.
The path leads us to the small village of Lajb, where the remains of a mining settlement are still visible. Namely mercury, or otherwise called vermilion, was mined here. In the year 1893 electricity was introduced to Slovenia, simultaneously in the mine and in Idrija. The macadam road leads us to the mountain pasture Preval (1311m), where an Alpine dairy farm stands offering refreshment with home made dishes in the summer months. An old traditional dish of Tržič which was eaten most frequently by workers called »majerce« and »majerji« on mountain pastures in the summer months, is called »masunek«. It is served in a hot bowl with brown bread.
We return to the border pass along the viewing path which leads through the Born tunnels. On the path a wonderful view of the Caravan Mountains and the Julian Alps opens up. The tunnels lead us through the mountain, from the south to the north side. The path through the tunnels enabled Baron Born easy access from the south to the north side of the mountain where he lived, however it was mainly used for hunting. There are rumours that the Baron used to meet his mistresses there. When we also cross the Šentanski plaz there is a beautiful view of the memorial park of the Mauthausen concentration camp and the Podljubel Valley.
