The Ljutomer – Ormož Hills are the land of hundreds of wine hills, the country of good wines, of tall, wooden rattles operated by the wind, of roguish and lively people. They are the centre of the Slovenian wine tradition. Marl ground with the addition of sand and clay is of suitable humidity, and airy, and besides that, also light, warm and deep, and just right for the grape vine.
These hills give birth to world famous wines, as for example, Jeruzalemčan. There the grape wine was already grown by the Romans, however, later the fruit of the vineyards was enjoyed by the Counts of Celje, the Habsburgs, the Salzburg Archbishops, Lords of Viturg as well as monasteries and many others. The Ljutomer – Ormož Hills are not only famous for wines but also for the beautiful landscape, for which some share the opinion that it belongs among the most beautiful in the world. It is rare that the beautiful and genuine nature is so wonderfully combined with the kindness and hospitality of people as in the Ljutomer – Ormož Hills. This diverse little land imprinted its seal on the people's character. They are in love with the beauty of the hills, adorned by the lively temperament of the hills' peaks, the talkativeness and roguish vocabulary which reminds us of the chattiness of the rattles operated by the wind, and starlings. The most beautiful excursion points on the kind, cumulus, wine growing hills are Jeruzalem, Svetinje and Litmerk, all by the famous wine road, as well as Cerovec, Lahonščak and we could number more. On these peaks we are captivated by the wonderful view far around, all the way to the Karavanke Mountains, Pohorje and Lake Balaton in Hungary.
