Bistriški vintgar Gorge

This six-kilometer trail runs along the valley of the Bistrica stream, which is dotted with interesting natural features. Leave your car in Zgornja Bistrica by the Impol factory and go past the waterworks to the crystal clear Bistrica stream. Along the trail, you can see the mineral serpentine and two rare fern species. After half an hour of walking, you can have a rest at the Roman quarry where marble was once cut for the Roman necropolises in Štajerska. The powerful murmur of the Šum Waterfall is sure to draw you from the marked trail to the course of the stream. A little higher, you will discover two more waterfalls. Visit the ancient Ančnikova fort from the 4th century and the Štampoharjev mill, only survivor among the many flourmills and sawmills once powered by the Bistrica. The entire trail runs in the shadow of imposing trees whose queen is the Maroltova Fir with a trunk circumference of 605 centimeters. Although the level of difficulty is low, do not forget to take proper hiking gear. The walk takes 3 to 4 hours.
