The wine-growing region of Primorska

This region produces the
best red wines in Slovenia. The influence of the Adriatic, mild Mediterranean climate and soil suitable for the grapevine contribute to the production of strong and full-flavoured wines. However,
white wines are also
excellent and high in quality in this region, among which some are autochthonous varieties. The wine-growing region of Primorska has four wine-growing districts. The districts of
Slovenian Istra and
Karst are famous for their excellent refošk, teran and malvazija, while the districts of
Goriška Brda and the
Valley of Vipava produce other excellent wine varieties, among which the following should be mentioned: merlot, cabernet sauvignon, beli pinot and rebula.
The wine-growing region of Podravje
The largest Slovenian wine-growing region produces primarily
white wines. These wines are full of flavour with rich aroma, while according to sugar content, they belong to all

categories – from dry and semi dry to semi sweet and sweet wines. Both wine-growing districts,
Štajerska and
Prekmurje, are also famous for their
sweet wines, which receive awards all over the world; furthermore, the production of
sparkling wines is also established.
The wine-growing region of Posavje
The smallest Slovenian wine-growing region has been famous for decades, primarily due to the winemakers from the
Bela krajina wine-growing district.
The wine-growing district of Dolenjska is famous for its protected white blend wine
cviček, which is among the most popular wines in Slovenia.
The wine-growing district of Bizeljsko-Sremiško has become famous in the recent period for its production of good
sparkling wines and excellent
sweet wines.
