This village, in fact a scattered mountain settlement, which numbers slightly over 140inhabitants, prides itself of neat and fine looking homes, among which one may also spot some stately and modernised farm estates. The locals are active in cattle breeding and forestry besides cultivating their land, and some are regularly employed down in the valley. The Krnice landscape is, particularly in its central part, softly undulating and offers an exceptionally sophisticated image to the visitor.

The life pulse on the Krniška planota is stimulated by carefully planned and well-performed events, the organisation of which is overseen by the Idrijske Krnice Tourist Association.
In the springtime, the first Saturday after Easter, self-taught, amateur instrumentalists (accordion, guitar) make their appearance at a show entitled “Village Musicians”, while the traditional mountaineering march to Jelenk via the rocky Kenda Edge takes place on the Pentecost holidays; the march coincides with a bicycle ascent to Jelenk from Spodnja Idrija.
A “Shepferd’s Night” at the beginning of each August used to be organised several years ago, yet at present, “Charcoal Sunday” is prepared on every last Sunday in August; this event has an ethnological content and also includes various competitions.
In view of the fact that one may encounter many religious landmarks and chapels since ancient times all over Krnice, it was decided a few years ago to set up an organised “May devotion Pilgrimage” in the month of May, with pilgrims covering the path from Želin over Masore to Krnice.
The annual “March along the Wounded Partisans Transportation Route”, running from Želin via Jagršče, Krnice and Oblakov Vrh to Vojsko, takes place on the last Sunday in August, and revives the memories of the heroic humanitarian acts of the Partisan medical services during World War II. A commemorative monument at the spot of horrible Nazi war crimes is to be seen at Sedej near the Krnice road.
A hunting chalet is located not far above the road, at the beginning of Krnice, whereas a mountain lodge stands just beside the road itself. Pancala at Cesar serves as a venue for open-air events, while the hall in the centre of the settlement is used in wintertime. GPS Northing (N)
