The village of Šentjošt is perched on a ridge, its centre by the road in the southwesternmost part of the Polhov Gradec Hills. It is the centre of economic, cultural and social life of the village and the surrounding area, which is evident from the year-round activities of cultural, sports, mountain and student communities, even a sailing club. Sporting activities—mostly skiing and cycling—also include an off-road race on Planina above Horjul. There are two churches in the area. The older, St Jošt’s Church, dates from the 13th century. The village was named after it. The belfry houses two bells of respectable age. The bell dating from 1354, made by bellmaker Viventius, is known as the oldest bell in Carniola; the other was made around 1400. The other is the Church of St John the Evangelist, a parish church dating from 1664.

Šentjošt offers a wide range of possibilities for tours to the surrounding hills or along the Šentjošt circular trail. You can refresh yourself with food and drinks at Brunarica Grič or, if you are a cheese fan, you can visit Sirarstvo Orešnik, a cheese shop where you can taste different kinds of homemade goat cheese.
