Named after the surname Hrvatin, the ridge village Hrvatini lies in the centre of the Milje peninsula at a height of 120-160m, with a view over the Trieste and Koper Gulfs. It consists of several clustered hamlets. They can be reached via the roads leading from the turning between Bivje and Ankaran and from the boarder crossings Škofije and Lazaret. Located in the nearby hills Kaštelir and Sv. Mihael (‘St. Michael’) are two prehistoric archaeological sites. The stone from the nearby quarries was used in the construction of the Port of Trieste.

A learning trail in the valley of the Fugnan creek leads us to beautifully preserved excavation sites of flysch sandstone. Already in ancient times, this area was described as fruitful and abounding in vineyards and olive growths. A local wine, “ribolla”, was very famous in the Middle Ages. The south slope of the hill Jurjev hrib boasts the largest olive grove in Slovenian Istria. Its top part comprises the grove Resslov gaj, a forest with learning trails; it was named after Josef Ressel, the Czech forester and inventor of the screw propeller.
