Miklavž is a condensed village which was named after the saint St. Nicholas (sv. Miklavž) in whose honour the church was constructed. The Parish Church of St. Nicholas (sv. Miklavž) was not mentioned until the year 1486. In the year 1528 it was the seat of the Ormož permanent curacy and only in the year 1617 of the vicariate parish. A part of the south wall of the nave and the major part of the bell tower, which is probably from the 16th century, have been taken and preserved from the original smaller and lower situated church. The present church with the vestry was built in the years 1683–92 and internally completed in the year 1696. The interior of the church is adorned with an ornamental painting by Franc and Janko Horvat in the year 1906. The tombstone plaques of two priests are built into the interior; the first is Matija Mihael Žagar's (1683–1696), the builder of the present church and the second Štefan Modrinjak's (1814–1827), the first Slovenian poet and writer from the surroundings of Ormož.
A local tourist guide of Ormož municipality will be glad to take you along the wine roads and show you the attractions of Ormož municipality (see the list of local guides).
