Slovenia as a pioneer in the world of glamping

The trademark World of Glamping is the first to implement segmentation and categorisation of glamping providers worldwide and thus contributes to the organisation of this field of tourism.

Slovenia as a pioneer in the world of glamping

Glamping, also known as luxury or glamorous camping, is one of the fastest growing trends in tourism on a global scale. There are numerous providers, which offer accommodation in harmony with nature, but often use misleading advertising. In the last few years, a fast growing trend in tourism brought a number of service providers to the market, whose originality and creativity have no boundaries. However, the lack of clear rules and criteria causes confusion and disorder, which harms both the service providers and the users.

A team of experts classifies glamping into three segments: scouting, glamping and lodging. Within each segment, 1 to 7 stars are granted according to their offer and quality, which will raise glamping to a higher level and set the foundations for a better future of glamping. The total number of all the criteria is 150, and they are distributed in 6 main categories based on the World of Glamping score, uniqueness, landscape architecture, sustainability policy, overall offer, individual accommodations and employees.

The project is supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. It was founded in Slovenia, the first green country of the world, certified according to the Green Destination standards – the country which was granted the prestigious National Geographic World Legacy Award in the category of Destination Leadership (ITB 2017) for its Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism and the country which belongs among 10 most sustainable countries in the world and was also granted the title Best of Europe (ITS 2018).
