Maribor, Slovenia’s wine-loving second biggest city and one of the European cities which this year hold the title of European City of Sport, is located in the north-east of the country. Starting on 12 February, the city will get new flight connections to Antwerp with a stopover in Munich. On weekdays, VLM Airlines will provide one daily service in each direction. Excluding a couple of flights to Croatia's Split and Dubrovnik in the summer, the airline has not operated a regular route from Maribor Airport until now. New flights will make Maribor, the city boasting the oldest grapevine on Earth, easy to reach, or as the CEO of VLM Airlines put it: “only a stone’s throw away from other Belgian and Dutch cities”. The tickets can be booked via www.flyvlm.com from 10th January for as little as EUR 59.

Maribor is not only a perfect city break destination, but also a great base for exploring the north-eastern part of Slovenia, dotted with numerous vineyards, spa resorts and charming little holiday farms, which offer unique way of spending holidays in Slovenia, let it be in winter or in summer.

This year, Maribor will be in the spotlight thanks to winning the title of European City of Sport, conferred by ACES Europe, a Brussels-based non-profit association. The city will also host several sports events this year, including the FIMBA European Maxibasketball Championship, the AETF Senior and Junior European Taekwon-Do Championships, and the Ice Hockey Women's World Championship Division II.
