Dinner with Members of the British Royal Family

In early November 2007, the wine-dealers’ guildhall in London was the venue for a formal dinner for guests and business partners from Bled. Bernard Williams, once an important guest of Bled and now an important business partner, invited the mayor of the Bled Municipality, Janez Fajfar, and the director of the Turizem Bled company, Eva Štravs Podlogar, to a formal dinner of the Horticultural Guild in London. The host of the event was honorary city councillor Sir Gavyn Arthur who delivered a welcome speech for the guests, pointing out that some of the guests (lords) have been spending New Year’s Day in Bled for the last few years. He then expressed his high hopes for a repeated visit. The honorary horticultural society of London was first mentioned as early as 1345 and was officially established with a royal document in 1605. It is therefore not surprising to find Prince Charles and the Belgian Royal couple among its members. At the formal celebration in November, the society accepted a new member – the Princess of Kent, the wife of Prince Michael of Kent. The princess was born in Karlovy Vary as Baroness Maria Christina von Reibnitz, a relative of the Windischgraetz family who owned a lot of land in Slovenia, i.e. the Predjamski grad castle, the Planina castle and the manor at the location of Villa Bled. In 1978, she married Prince Michael of Kent, the son of the Queen’s cousin George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina, sister of Princess Olga, wife of the Yugoslav Prince Pavel. Prince George and Princess Marina were engaged in Bohinj in 1934 and also visited Bled.
