International Mountain Day

The UN declared 11th December International Mountain Day. Each year, a specially selected topic is discussed at an international level. On this year’s International Mountain Day, the “Komisija za varstvo gorske narave” (“Commission for the Protection of Mountain Nature”) of the Alpine Association of Slovenia organised a round table on the subject of more active involvement in the preservation and protection of mountain forest areas. Discussions were also held on activities affecting mountain forest areas and their consequences, nature protection events in 2007 and other topics from the field of mountain nature protection. The International Mountain Day is a good opportunity to remind the general public of the significance of mountain environments and the importance of their preservation.
