Important Events in Ljubljana during the EU Presidency

- “Festivals Facilitate Intercultural Dialogue”, 7 and 8 January 2008
The Ljubljana Festival is the organiser of the signing of the European Festivals protocol during the Year of Intercultural Dialogue, which will be attended by Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Culture, and by directors of the larger European festivals.

- The Council of European Municipalities and Regions, 17-20 March 2008
In cooperation with the Association of the Municipalities of Slovenia, Ljubljana will host the regular annual meeting of the Directors and Secretary-Generals of the municipal, city and regional associations – members of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. The idea to hold the meeting in Ljubljana the next year was proposed by Dr Michael Häupl, President of the Council and mayor of Vienna.

- The “Alive” Exhibition, 23 March – 30 May 2008
In cooperation with the MOL, the Institute of Ecology will organise an open-air gallery at the Jakopičevo sprehajališče promenade in Ljubljana entitled “Alive” by the world famous photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

- The “Children of Europe” Exhibition, lasting for the entire duration of the EU    presidency
The MOL is going to sponsor the “Children of Europe” photographic exhibition in cooperation with other European cities. The photographs will be taken by pupils from numerous European cities. Photographers Jure Breceljnik and Peter Giordani are the directors of the exhibition.

- The “European Identity” Exhibition, 8 March – 8 June 2008
The open-air exhibition by Rem Kolhaas will be held in the Argentinski park.

- The 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Primož Trubar, June 2008
Special attention will be paid to the venerable anniversary of the birth of Primož Trubar. The mayors of cities where Trubar worked will also be invited to the main event in Ljubljana.
