The GOTHICmed Project within the Framework of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (2008)

The year 2008 has been declared the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (EYID), based on the awareness that Europe’s cultural diversity is its exceptional advantage.

The year 2008 has been declared the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (EYID), based on the awareness that Europe’s cultural diversity is its exceptional advantage. This year, everyone living in Europe will be encouraged to explore the rich European cultural heritage and to learn from the various cultural traditions. Intercultural dialogue is more and more important for strengthening European identity and citizenship. In December 2007, the European Commission began promoting the EYID, within which the GOTHICmed project was presented as a best practice example. Activities in Slovenia were performed by the International Tourism Institute in cooperation with partners from Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy. The goal of the GOTHICmed project was to strengthen regional development, principally through cultural and tourism promotion based on the Gothic architecture of the Mediterranean region.
