The International Conference during the EU Presidency

In 2008, the celebrations of the main Ljubljana holiday and of Europe Day will be even more solemn. On 8 and 9 May 2008, Ljubljana will host an international conference to which the mayors of all the European capitals, of the capitals of countries waiting to gain acceptance into the EU and of capitals of the former country of Yugoslavia will be invited. Two key topics will be discussed: the relationship between the capital, the countryside and the country and the role of cities in the development and strengthening of intercultural dialogue. At the same time, Ljubljana will also host the 2008 European Forum, organised by the European Broadcasting Union or the Westdeutsche Rundfunk. At this Forum, the Member State leaders and the most eminent representatives of EU institutions will discuss current topics related to relations in the EU. The CIVIS – Europe’s prestigious Media Prize for the best television contribution from the field of tolerance and coexistence will be awarded within the framework of the Forum.
