The traditional 29th Pruning of the Old Vine will take place at 11am on Friday 14th March 2008 in front of the Old Vine House in Maribor. It is the oldest living grapevine in the world, which has for over 450 years grown and borne grapes at Maribor’s Lent, situated on the bank of the Drava River. The pruning of the oldest vine in the world is attractive for visitors and locals alike, as it is an important viticultural practice as well as a ceremonial and tourist event with a lively cultural programme. Vine pruning and official presentation of vine grafts will be carried out by Mr Franc Kangler, Master of the Old Vine and Mayor of Maribor, and Mr Tone Zafošnik, town vinedresser and long-standing keeper of the vine.
