Slovenia at MITT Travel & Tourism Show in Moscow

Moscow's MITT 2008 International Travel & Tourism Show opened on 19 March. The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) showcasted Slovenian tourism on 100 sq metres of exhibition space. The Moscow International Travel & Tourism show is one of the largest and most important events for the tourism industry in Russia and the Baltic states. The main theme of the presentation of Slovenia at MITT was the Slovenian health spa and wellness offer. The Russian market has always been the most interested in the health spa offer and the offers of the coastal region, alpine region of Slovenia and the capital Ljubljana; and there is a growing interest in the natural attractions of our land and possibilities for an active holiday. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number and overnight stays of visitors from the Russian Federation, and given the population of this country, we believe that there is huge potential on this outgoing market. Slovenia recorded 21,980 tourists from the Russian Federation in 2007 (a 27-percent rise), generating 136,722 overnight stays (a 31-percent increase over 2006). We estimate that the growing trend in the number and overnight stays of visitors from the Russian market is going to continue into the future.
