Number of Tourists and Overnight Stays Up in February

A 2-percent increase in the number of tourists and overnight stays was recorded this February.

A 2-percent increase in the number of tourists and overnight stays was recorded this February. The number of domestic tourists and overnight stays was up by 3 percent, and the number of foreign tourists was at the same level as in 2007 (the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was down by 1 percent over 2007). In February, the largest number of tourists came from Italy (20,213), Austria (10,514) and Germany (4,779). On the three most important outgoing markets for Slovenian tourism, a moderate increase in the number of tourists was recorded (Italy +3%, Austria the same as last February, Germany +1%), whereas the so-called growing markets showed a dynamic increase in the number of tourists and overnight stays. In February 2008 compared to February 2007, the number of tourists from the Russian Federation was up by 32%, Sweden 16%, Finland 63%, and Ukraine by 11%. The number of tourists from Croatia was down by 13% this February compared to last year. The number of tourists from the neighbouring Hungarian market was up by 6%.
