New Integrated Tourism Product

The International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj is a new integrated tourism product inspired by the rich cultural and natural heritage of Bohinj. This year's 2nd International Wild Flower Festival will take place between 24 May and 7 June 2008.

The International Wild Flower Festival combines three main parts:

- Wild Flowers in the Arts focuses on the cultural side of the festival. It features a variety of cultural events (musical events and concerts, exhibitions of paintings and photographs, art workshops, revival of old customs – village singing…).

- Wild Flowers in the Home displays the role of flowers in everyday life (in the kitchen, handicrafts...).

- Wild Flowers in Science features a range of seminars and consultations for professionals.

The main goals of the festival:

- Promote and acknowledge the value of the natural and cultural heritage of Bohinj and its greater area;
- Show how important it is to manage the area in line with the principles of sustainable development, which is exhibited both in the preservation of the rich biodiversity of the natural environment and the improvement of the cultural and economic standard of the local population;
- Give a practical demonstration of how ecotourism and mountain farming can become key elements for securing long-term economic prospects of the area and at the same time a development model for other mountain areas of Slovenia;
- Develop off-season tourism offer.
