DOVES Presents More Eco-Flags Than Ever Before

9 Blue and 283 Green Flags have been awarded. An exclusive international eco-label, the Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards as well as good sanitary and safety facilities at swimming spots and marinas, awarded each season on the basis of an open contest.

The Blue Flag (BF) contest starts beginning of the year. The international environmental award and label are presented to open swimming spot operators and their municipalities in recognition of their exemplary responsibility to the environment, both locally and regionally. Candidates must meet all of the 29 FEE criteria for open swimming spots or 22 FEE criteria for marinas, which fall into four categories:

1. Water quality,
2. Environmental education and information,
3. Environmental management and safety,
4. Services.

This year marks the 14th anniversary of the Blue Flag contest. In the years since the introduction, 90 Blue Flags have been awarded in Slovenia.

This year’s winners are:

OPEN SWIMMING SPOTS: Municipality of Piran:
1. Centralna plaža Okolje Portorož, 11 BFs
2. Kopališče Zdravilišča Krka Strunjan, 11 BFs
3. Kopališče Salinera Strunjan, 4 BFs

Municipality of Izola:
4. Kopališče HTP Simonov zaliv, 7 BFs

Municipality of Koper:
5. Youth Health and Holiday Centre Debeli Rtič, RKS, 3 BFs

Municipality of Radovljica:
6. Kopališče Šobčev bajer, ŠOBEC-turistično in trgovsko podjetje, Lesce, 8 BFs

Municipality of Bled:
7. Grajsko kopališče, Infrastruktura Bled d.o.o., Bled, 7 BFs

MARINAS:
1. Marina Portorož, 14 BFs
2. Marina Porting Izola, 9 BFs

Blue Flag marinas also run their own, individual Blue Flag schemes year-round. By signing a special environmental code, owners or users of private sea vessels are eligible to receive the individual Blue Flag. With this approach DOVES wants to directly influence the behaviour of as many people as possible, notably those that can make a direct contribution to the prevention of marine pollution, in the widest possible context, and the coastline.
