New Post and Telecommunications Museum in Polhov Gradec

Polhov Gradec opened a new Post and Telecommunications Museum. The old museum was housed in Škofja Loka's Old Castle since 1985. It was co-founded by Pošta Slovenije and Telekom Slovenije.

The new museum is part of the Technical Museum of Slovenia. The Post and Telecommunications Museum hosts revised and updated collections: History of Post, History of Telecommunications, Women Telephonists and Telegraphists, and Živa's Corner, for young visitors. Also on display is the new The beginnings of mobile telephony in Slovenia exhibition, installed by Ljudmila Bezlaj Krevel, Ph.D. The co-founders used original items and professional support to provide a deep and interesting insight into the history of telecommunications and post. The telecommunications collection specifically focuses on women telegraphists. The museum also includes how-to multimedia presentations: building a telegraph network, production of telephone sets, setup of switchboards. The museum collection at the new location has been upgraded with an all-new mobile telephony collection. The History of Post collection features a development timeline through different historical periods, from ancient history to the present day. The exhibition was enriched with post chaise models, reconstructions of post offices from different periods, postman's uniforms and their means of transportation such as horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, mopeds. Visitors can also see movie clips and an animated film on the topic of post.
