SIMEX Evolving Into CONVENTA

The organiser of the SIMEX trade fair, the Slovenian Convention Bureau, in association with the Slovenian Tourist Board, Ljubljana Tourist Board, and Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, decided to expand the trade fair to the whole area of southeast Europe, based on the initiative of exhibitors and invited guests, business event organisers, who attended the last held trade fair. So the first trade fair under the new name CONVENTA is scheduled to take place next year.

CONVENTA, a continuation and upgrade of the SIMEX project, is the single most important business event in the area of convention tourism not only in Slovenia but the wider southeast European region. It is a two-day offer and demand exchange event, which will at the end of January 2009 bring together for the first time all the key providers of convention activities from southeast Europe and organisers of conventions, seminars, conferences and other events from across Europe. The event will take place at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre between 22 and 23 January 2009, in the context of the 2009 Tourism and Leisure Fair, which recently joined the International Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ITTFA).
This year’s successful SIMEX trade fair proved that southeast Europe is increasingly gaining ground on the international convention market, which, in turn, is also the reason for the expansion of the event. The Slovenian Convention Bureau is spearheading the integration of convention offer for this area, and confirmation that they were on the right track also came from its international partners. The first step for the international presentation of southeast Europe's convention offer is the planned release of the “Meet in Southeast Europe” catalogue of convention service providers from the area; another important step is the staging of the international CONVENTA convention trade fair, which will cover the whole southeast Europe.
The CONVENTA 2009 is expected to involve around 120 providers from southeast Europe (hotels, convention centres, special venues, PCOs (professional convention organisers), DMCs (destination management companies), event agencies and providers of other convention services as well as 150 invited buyers or event organisers from around Europe.
