In the first six months of 2008, Ljubljana registered a 9.6-percent increase in overnight stays over the same period in 2007.

According to Ljubljana Tourist Information Centre (TIC) statistics, Ljubljana registered 300,272 overnight stays in the first six months of 2008, which is 9.6 percent more than compared to the first six months of 2007. Domestic and foreign guests accounted for 11,193 and 289,079 overnight stays respectively. The TIC statistics cover nearly 85 percent of all accommodation facilities in the municipality of Ljubljana. Visitor statistics for Ljubljana’s three tourist information centres show 100,600 visitors in the first six months this year, which is the same as in the first six months of 2007.
According to the official statistics of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SORS) for Ljubljana in the 1 January–30 April 2008 period, the tourist arrival index stands at 103.2 (January–April 2008: 90,747 tourist arrivals; January–April 2007: 87,965 tourist arrivals). As for overnight stays, SORS statistics showed an index of 113.5 for the 1 January–30 April 2008 period (January–April 2008: 186,108 overnight stays; January–April 2007: 164,021 overnight stays). The gap between the tourist arrival and overnight stay indices reveals that the average length of stay in Ljubljana has increased, specifically to 2.1 days in the first four months of 2008.
Tourists at the three TICs in Ljubljana are primarily interested in Ljubljana's events and main attractions, and they also look for specific information regarding the introduction of the vignette tolling system. Ljubljana's tourism offer is so compelling that tourists from nearby European destinations grow into returning visitors. Already familiar with Ljubljana's main attractions, they are increasingly interested in the events taking place in the city and new offers in the culinary and nightlife spheres. Foreign visitors generally like the pulse of the city and the offer, which is above expectations. Apart from theme and hands-on tours of Ljubljana (more information: http://www.visitljubljana.si/en/tours_and_excursions/city_tours/), visitors can choose from a wide variety of trips and excursions to different corners of Slovenia.
On average, there are 5 excursions operated daily; over one week, visitors can choose from 22 trips to different Slovenian destinations and return to Ljubljana at the end of the day. (More information: http://www.visitljubljana.si/en/tours_and_excursions/excursions/). Trips and excursions on offer are also published on special posters put up at all the tourist information centres and numerous accommodation facilities across Ljubljana.
