Countdown to the Olympics at Slovenian House, Organisers Sorting Last Details Before Welcoming First Guests

The beginning of the 29th Beijing Olympic Games is a good day away. Organisers claim to be prepared; the tension ahead of the opening ceremony is rising by the hour.

The Slovenian House in Beijing has been making final arrangements to welcome the first guests since Monday. Between 8–24 August, the House will be hosting numerous Slovenian athletes, economists, politicians, and other friends of Slovenia and China, under the slogan “United We Play.”
The residential part of the hotel has taken on a Slovenian look. The walls have been decorated with images of various Slovenian attractions, such as Mt Triglav, Bled and Piran; the lobby showcases 15 photos of legendary Slovenian Olympian Leon Štukelj; one of the conference halls hosts an art exhibition of Chinese artist Huiqin Wang, who has lived in Slovenia for the past 27 years; aromas of traditional Slovenian delicacies, prepared for Slovenian and Chinese guests by chef Jožef Oseli, waft through the air here and there. A Slovenian look has also been taken on by the conference rooms where Slovenian business and tourism representatives will be presenting to their Chinese colleagues the benefits of cooperating with Slovenia.
The official opening ceremony of the House will take place on Saturday evening, 9 August, with the Slovenian Olympic Committee and the Slovenian Tourist Board as the first official hosts.
