Successful Summer Season on the Coast

The Portorož Tourist Board reported that the 2008 summer season was successful. This year's overnight stays figures again confirm that the so-called July drop in visitor numbers no longer stands. The convention tourism season on the Coast is also expected to be successful.

Hotels in the municipality of Piran registered nearly 340,000 overnight stays in the summer season, which is up by 5.5 percent over the same period last year. This figure accounts for roughly one-quarter of overnight stays recorded on an annual basis. The hotels registered 165,169 and 165,487 overnight stays in July and August respectively, with more than three-quarters of guests from abroad. In the forefront were guests from Italy, followed by Austria, Germany, the UK, France, and the Scandinavian countries. The narrow gap between July and August confirms what was observed last year, namely that August is no longer the only month with fully booked tourist accommodation facilities.
In the period between January and August 2008 hotels in the municipality of Piran registered 754,376 overnight stays, which is 4 percent more than in the same period in 2007. This underpins the growth that was projected in 2007 by the coastal tourism industry.
The Portorož Tourist Board's revamped website, www.portoroz.si, has been launched today. Having recently registered more than 400,000 visitors over a period of one year, the website has been upgraded for the third time in the eight years since its inception.
