“Slovenian EU Council Presidency 2008” Exhibition

The National Museum of Contemporary History is housing the “Slovenian EU Council Presidency 2008” exhibition from 4 September to 20 October.

Slovenia was entrusted with presiding over the EU Council from 1 January to 30 June 2008. Slovenia headed the leading decision-making authority in the European Union, which brings together 27 member states and 490 million people. It chaired all meetings of EU Council and European Council formations, represented the EU Council in its dealings with other EU institutions and bodies, and promoted EU position in other organisations and countries worldwide. Slovenia played an international role of historic proportions. The programme, human resources, communication, logistics, promotional, and budgetary dimensions of the six-month Slovenian EU Council Presidency and the fact that it was one of the most complex national projects in democratic Slovenia provided the framework for the museum presentation. The exhibition was produced by the National Museum of Contemporary History, Military Museum of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Government Communication Office.
The cooperation among the Slovenian EU Presidency Secretariat, Government Communication Office, Government Protocol Service of the Republic of Slovenia, all ministries and the Government Office for Local Self-Government and Regional Policy, Deželna banka Slovenije, Pošta Slovenije, and the designer of the visual identity system for the Slovenian EU Presidency, Mr Robert Kuhar, produced an exhibition which showcases miscellaneous pieces, most of which were donated to the National Museum of Contemporary History, included in the new museum collection and put on display: information and promotional material, promotional and protocol gifts, basic and protocol printed material, material prepared by individual ministries, spatial & layout design items for the Slovenian EU Presidency, and photographic highlights.
