The grand opening of the renovated Hotel Mitra, which took place on 14 November 2008, was attended by the hotel's business partners and distinguished guests active in the field of tourism, journalists and a number of other guests from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Mr Marjan Hribar, Director-General of the Directorate for Tourism, and the mayor of Ptuj, Mr Štefan Čelan.

The renovated and expanded deluxe Hotel Mitra, situated in the old town centre of Ptuj, now has 60 first-rate beds in 29 themed rooms and suites. The expansion of the hotel has brought 7 hotel rooms and suites, and the quality has improved tremendously. The hotel as a whole – with its setting, new exterior, and particularly the interior decoration of each individual room – takes you on a magnificent journey into more than two thousand years of history and tradition of the town of Ptuj. The hotel premises and rooms have been decorated in five different styles symbolising the important periods in the town's rich history.
Following renovation, Hotel Mitra also expanded its programme range with the Osterberger Wine Cellar and Wine Bar, which hosts wines from Ptuj and its surrounding areas and offers visitors a chance to learn about and taste wines produced by 16 of the most prominent wine cellars from all three wine regions of Slovenia; the town's Kavarna Kipertz coffeehouse, which serves its own coffee brand – the tradition of coffee roasting and selling dates back to 1786, when the business was run by the Kipertz family in that same building; the Venera Wellness Salon with Turkish and Finnish saunas, a whirlpool, lounge areas, massages and beauty treatments; a seminar and banquet venue with the Alojzija Strauss Salon and the Herberstein in Poetoviona Salon, which seats up to 120 people. From spring to autumn, hotel guests will be able to enjoy the open-air area in the hotel atrium called Mitrov Vrt, which is a quiet terrace perfect for a meal and a great event venue at the heart of the historical town of Ptuj.
