Priorities of the Ministry of the Economy for 2009 and Tasks Accomplished By End-November 2008

A press conference was held on Friday 23 January 2009 featuring the Minister of the Economy of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Matej Lahovnik, and the State Secretary at the Ministry of the Economy, Ms Darja Radić, MSc, who unveiled the priorities of the Ministry of the Economy and the measures to tackle the economic crisis that have already been put in place as well as those that are going to be taken in the middle of February.

In the tourism sphere, the Directorate for Tourism at the Ministry of the Economy will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
o In accordance with the strategic goals to increase the level of competitiveness and scope of Slovenian tourism in 2009, the main aim will be to generate increasing demand in Slovenia as a tourist destination. This will be accomplished by introducing upgraded marketing and promotional activities aimed at fostering closer collaboration with the Slovenian tourism industry, by carrying out additional promotional campaigns, expanding from the traditional to new and prospective markets, significantly intensifying PR and advertising activities, continuing introducing new flight routes, streamlining visa application procedures, and by running sales-oriented campaigns on the home market and e-marketing activities;
o Despite adverse economic conditions, tourism policy activities will be aimed at stimulating ongoing development, mostly of the public tourism infrastructure, and at promoting quality improvement and development of human resources.
