According to the Bank of Slovenia, the exports of leisure travel in 2008 were up by 12.7% over 2007, totalling more than EUR 2 billion (EUR 2.04 bn).

Having recorded a decline in overnight stays (–1%) and an increase in tourist arrivals in 2008, leisure travel exports rose by more than 12% in 2008 compared to the year before. The tourist spending growth rate, which exceeds the growth of international tourists in Slovenia, is proof that one of the goals of Slovenian tourism is being successfully met, that is, to develop tourism products with a higher added value, which has been defined in the Development Plan and Policies of Slovenian Tourism 2007–2011, the Marketing Strategy of Slovenian Tourism 2007–2011 and the Slovenian Tourist Board's annual work programmes.
For illustration, leisure travel exports in 2007 totalled EUR 1.81 billion. In 2007, when tourist arrivals and overnight stays both increased as against 2006, the total value of exports went up by 16.4%.
