The results of the latest survey, Travel Intentions of the Inhabitants of Slovenia in the 2008/2009 Winter Season, have shown that 26% of Slovenians had made plans to travel this winter season, which is down by 10% compared to last year (36%). Out of the 26%, the percentage of people planning to take long and short holidays decreased by 2% and as many as 12%, respectively, while in terms of day trips, that is, without any overnight stays, the overall percentage went up by 4%.
The main reasons for travelling identified in the survey were leisure (56%), rest (9%) and sports/skiing (7%). Most of the survey respondents reportedly planned to spend their holidays in Slovenia (43%), followed by Austria (12%) and Italy (11%). The survey results also revealed that nearly one-half of the respondents (49%) won't be going on holiday this winter on account of unfavourable financial conditions.
