Camping Bled: the new season brings improvements for guests and the environment

Now that April is here, Camping Bled, part of the Sava Hotels & Resorts group, has reopened its gates. Camping Bled starts the new season with newly laid out pitches, which will help increase the quality of a stay on the campsite.

Camping Bled opened in 1950 and has been classified as a five-star campsite since 2005. This year's first guests have already arrived, while more are expected over the Easter holidays. Last year a record 90,021 guests stayed at Camping Bled, which is a 6% increase on 2007. Levelling of the pitches – an operation designed to ensure that all pitches satisfy the requirements of the categorisation rules – has been completed in the last few days. All pitches have been enlarged, a drainage system has been installed and pitches have been additionally strengthened so that they will remain dry even in the case of persistent rain. This will improve the quality of life on the campsite. A total of EUR 150,000 has been invested in improvements to the campsite's infrastructure.
Considerable attention has also been dedicated to horticultural improvements on the campsite. Part of the campsite has been replanted with autochthonous bushes and trees. A number of fruit-bearing tree and bush species have been planted to encourage the presence of birds. Even now, thanks to the very favourable natural conditions, ornithologists estimate that around 50 species of birds can be observed on the campsite, and up to 100 species during the migration season.
The very high presence of birds on the campsite and in the surrounding area will be exploited in future to develop additional attractions for guests. The aim is to develop birdwatching programmes and use these to attract a new type of guest. According to renowned Slovene ornithologist Dare Šere, 'birdwatching tourism is very highly developed in Europe with around a million enthusiasts who choose their holiday destinations on the basis of opportunities to see rare and interesting species. Bled, with its proximity to the Pokljuka plateau and the Triglav National Park offers excellent conditions for the development of this form of tourism.'
