The world’s largest cruise shipping convention took place between 16 and 20 March in Miami and included a conference on current trends in the sector, the problems it is encountering and novelties that are appearing. As in the past, this year’s event was also attended by ship owners from around the world and representatives of places that are excellent ports of call for cruise visits.

The Slovenian stall featured Koper and the passenger terminal, represented by representatives of the Municipality of Koper, the Consortium for the development and promotion of cruise shipping in Slovenia, the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Port of Koper.
According to Medcruise, Koper is one of the newer passenger ports to join the cruise shipping industry and expected to raise the number of passengers visiting new Mediterranean destinations.
The predictions for Koper are positive, as all the ship owners to visit Koper between 2005 and 2008 again confirmed their reservations. They are even promising more arrivals and larger ships. This year, 68 passenger ships are expected and they will together bring around 36,700 passengers to Slovenia. This means 19% more ships than last year and 143% more passengers.
The season will commence on 13 April with the arrival of the passenger ship Azamara Journey, belonging to the Royal Caribbean Group. At the end of April, the ship Arion will for the third year running commence its voyage in Koper, which it uses as its home port.
This year the passenger terminal will also welcome 8 new ships. The following will visit us for the first time: Azamara Quest, Insignia, Seabourn Spirit, Silver Whisper, Minerva, Thomson Celebrity, Le Ponant and Adventure 2.
