Results of the Best Ski Centre Challenge 2008/09

On Wednesday 8 April, the Hotel Golf in Bled hosted an award ceremony for the best ski resorts as part of the Best Ski Centre Challenge 2008/09.

The Best Ski Centre Challenge took place this year for the 18th time running, again under the auspices of the radio show "Dobro jutro, Slovenija" (Good Morning Slovenia). The organisers wish to use the radio show to inform listeners about current goings-on on the Slovenian slopes, new developments and special offers, and at the same time encourage ski-centre operators to offer additional services and attractions. This year’s winter season above all showed progress in accompanying activities, and there were also a good number of investments in lift infrastructure and snow-making equipment and accommodation capacities.
In this year’s challenge the votes were spread out among 82 different Slovenian ski centres. Listeners of "Dobro jutro, Slovenija", visitors of the tourist-information website and other cooperating websites together gave 21,581 votes. Particular significance was attached this year to additional services and attractions for children and families as they also voted for "Family friendly ski centres" and recorded a very positive reaction by skiing families.
In the category of LARGER ski centres it is the usual places that remain at the top. First place goes to Rekreacijsko turistični center Krvavec (17.10%), followed by Klimatsko turistični center Rogla (16.80%), and third place goes to Smučarski center Cerkno (14.83%). In the category of MEDIUM SIZE skiing centres it is Gostinsko turistični center Kope which takes first place with 35.77% of the vote, followed by Smučarsko turistični center Stari vrh (22.49%) in second place and Velika planina (15.18%) coming in third. Of the SMALLER ski centres first place yet again goes to Celjska koča (19.51%), followed by Rekreacijsko turistični center Jakec Trije Kralji (11.02%) and Viševnik Pokljuka with 6.06%. "Family-friendly ski centres of 2008/09" were the following: Unitur Rogla, RTC Kranjska Gora, Celjska koča, Jakec – Trije kralji, SC Cerkno and Soriška planina.
