Trips by Slovene tourists in the first quarter of the year

In the first three months of 2009, 24% of the inhabitants of Slovenia aged 15 or over participated in approximately 844,000 tourist trips, either private or business.

In the first three months of 2009, 24% of the inhabitants of Slovenia aged 15 or over participated in approximately 844,000 tourist trips, either private or business.

According to figures from the survey, around 415,000 people, or 24% of the population of Slovenia aged 15 or over, took part in a private or business trip in the period January–March 2009. The number of tourists who went on tourist trips was down by 2% on the same period last year, but the number of tourist trips was up by 8%.

The number of private trips was up by 13% compared to last year, mainly as a result of the greater number of private trips during which tourists stayed overnight in private accommodation; the number of such trips was up by 29%. The number of private trips during which tourists stayed in other accommodation establishments (hotels and similar, other accommodation/catering establishments etc.) fell by 11% (the number of such trips in Slovenia increased by 6%, while the number of such trips in other countries fell by 25%).

Sixty-five per cent of private trips were in Slovenia and 35% abroad – of which 28% in Croatia, 20% in Austria, 19% in Italy, 6% in Serbia and 6% in Germany.

Slovene tourists on private trips, with an average of 3.7 overnight stays, spent on average 48 euros per day; on private trips in Slovenia (an average of 2.5 overnight stays) they spent an average of 32 euros per day, and on trips abroad (an average of 6 overnight stays) they spent an average of 62 euros per day.
