Michelin about Kendov dvorec and Vila Planinka

In November 2021, a journalist from the Michelin Guide visited selected 2021 Michelin-listed Slovenian restaurants. The latest article presents two top restaurants in boutique hotels, Kendov dvorec in Spodnja Idrija and Vila Planinka in Zgornje Jezersko.

Kendov Dvorec, the art of tradition

"Yet it is the restaurant that is the beating heart of the establishment." (Michelin)

Kendov Dvorec in Spodnja Idrija is a country mansion from 1377, which was transformed into a boutique 5-star hotel, a member of the renowned Relais & Châteaux. The restaurant is the heart of the castle. The culinary tandem, Franci Pivk and Klavdij Pirih, have strived to include local ingredients on the menu for over twenty years now. In the article, Michelin describes their approach, which is based on locally grown ingredients; fruits and vegetables even come from the hotel's own garden and orchard.

Villa Planinka, in contact with nature

Located on the ground floor in the main area, the hotel restaurant cooks up a memorable experience, courtesy of young chef Blaž Derlink, who has worked with Ana Roš (Hiša Franko) and Igor Jagodic (Strelec). (Michelin)

The architecture of the Vila Planinka boutique hotel merges with the spectacular mountain landscape, which impresses not only with breathtaking nature and the Alpine chic interior, but also with top-quality cuisine. Committed to sustainability, Villa Planinka boasts first-class dishes from quality and delicious local ingredients from nearby organic farms: they use seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheese, butter and meat from high mountain pastures, freshwater fish, fresh eggs and herbs and strawberries picked every morning. "I would say that my cooking is inspired by French "bistronomie"," says chef Blaž Derlink.
