Giro d'Italia is returning to Slovenia also in 2022

After an excellent performance of Giro d'Italia in Slovenia this year, when the cyclists raced around Goriška Brda with the finish in Nova Gorica, the popular race returns to Slovenia also in 2022.

The organizers of the 105th edition of Giro d'Italia announced the stages of the next race and made an extensive presentation at a press conference on 11 November in Verona. In 2022, the 19th stage, taking place on Friday, 27 May, will take cyclists to Slovenia. The start of the stage will be in the town of Marano Lagunare, after 100 km the route will lead to Soča Valley and leave Slovenia after a 10 km ascent to Kolovrat, with an average of almost 10% incline. The total length of the stage is 178 km and an altitude of 3230 metres. 

The 105th edition of Giro d'Italia will begin on Friday, May 7, in Budapest. Hungary hosts the first three stages, followed by a move to Sicily. From there, the cyclists will continue their journey along the Apennine Peninsula to the north, first to the Alps in western Italy, and then move east and visit Slovenia. The day after the Slovenian stage, the last mountain stage with the planned finish at the Fedaia pass (Marmolada) will follow, and on Sunday ta final chronometer with the finish in Verona.

The Giro attracts around 800 million viewers from across the globe and provides an excellent opportunity for promoting Slovenia and increase visibility.
