As many as 8 restaurants in Ljubljana receive Gault&Millau Ljubljana/Ljubljana Quality plaques 2021

Together with the prestigious international gastronomic guide, Gault&Millau, Ljubljana Tourism, as part of the Ljubljana Quality project, each year awards plaques to the best restaurants. The highest rating – four toques – went to Strelec Restaurant, while three toques were awarded to Atelje, JB Restaurant, Maxim, Cubo, As, Harfa and Grič.

Despite the epidemic, Ljubljana Tourism decided to carry out the restaurant assesment. Following strict criteria and with a help of anonymous reviewers who visited the restaurants unannounced, they were able to select the winners of the awards.

The awards ceremony, which previously formed an unmissable part of the closing November Gourmet Finale, took place later than usual and in a hybrid form: the winners of the awards were announced online and the plaques themselves were delivered to the doors of the restaurants by a “courier service”. The courier was Jure Robežnik, a well-known figure who has presented Ljubljana Quality awards in his own inimitable style already in the past years. Aboard an electric Kavalir vehicle, he visited each award winner with a plaque and a tablet, left the plaque at the restaurant door and used the tablet to play pre-recorded personal congratulations from Ljubljana mayor Zoran Janković and Ljubljana Tourism director Petra Stušek.

Coinciding with the presentation of the awards was the publication of the brand-new Gault&Millau Ljubljana/Ljubljana Quality 2021 guide, which in addition to top restaurants covers specialist shops, selected hotels, farm tourism establishments, the finest local producers (including producers of vegan food), craft brewers, popular gastronomic gathering places and culinary events in Ljubljana.

The top-ranked shops in Ljubljana are: Dobrote Dolenjske, Le Potica, Pivoljub, Juha Studio Keramika, Rifuzl, Fox Boutique, Ika, Grajska Vinoteka & Hram/Castle Wine Bar & Bistro, Catbriyur Porcelain, Piranske Soline, Zakladi Slovenije/Treaures of Slovenia and Kraševka.

The guide will be on sale at the Tourist Information Centre when it reopens. Other sales outlets will be announced on the Visit Ljubljana and Gourmet Ljubljana websites.

The contents prove that Ljubljana gastronomy is definitely worth tasting, that our food is safe and healthy, and that Slovenia – the European Region of Gastronomy 2021 – is a country that successfully combines gastronomy with the principles of sustainable tourism.
