Borders open for tourists from the EU and Schengen countries; larger accommodation facilities opening on Monday

The new Ordinance on imposing and implementing measures related to prevent the spread of epidemic COVID-19 at the border crossing points at the external border and inspection posts within national borders of the Republic of Slovenia entered into force on 26 May. New exceptions for entering Slovenia have been added as regards a 14-day mandatory quarantine for travellers entering the country. An exemption for tourists from EU Member States and Schengen Area countries has been added by an ordinance. The mandatory quarantine does not apply to persons who have a confirmed booking for an overnight stay at a tourist accommodation in Slovenia and who prove this by confirmation of booking. Therefore, tourists from the EU and Schengen countries are allowed to enter Slovenia without restrictions and without quarantine if they provide proof of booking for an overnight stay. Detailed information is available here. See also the most frequently asked questions and answers about crossing the state border.

At its 18th regular session held on 28 May, the Government issued the Decision to complement the list of countries from which persons are allowed to enter the Republic of Slovenia in accordance with Paragraph 2 of Article 9 of the Ordinance on imposing and implementing measures related to prevent the spread of epidemic COVID-19 at the border crossing points at the external border and inspection posts within national borders of the Republic of Slovenia. Having noted the assessment of the epidemiological situation by the National Institute of Public Health, and in accordance with the agreement between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and Hungary on the conditions of Slovenian and Hungarian citizens for crossing the state border, the Government decided to add Hungary on the list. This means that persons with permanent or temporary residence in Hungary may enter Slovenia without restrictions or a mandatory quarantine.After Croatia, Hungary is thus the second country put on the list for unrestricted state border crossing. More at the followinglink.

On 26 May, the Government also issued the Ordinance amending the Ordinance on the restrictions on the offering and sale of goods and services to consumers in the Republic of Slovenia. The amended ordinance thus lifted the prohibition on providing services in tourism activities for accommodation facilities with more than 30 rooms, accommodation facilities offering spa treatments, wellness and fitness centres, pools and water activities. There is still a temporary ban on providing nightclub services. More on the following link.
