He adds: »Petola is still the most important.« This special base, full of microorganisms enriches the salt with minerals and has been used since the 14th century when the salt makers from the Croatian island Pag brought it to Piran. On average, the saltplant season lasts from the first half of June to the middle of September, but the salt workers take care of their basins during the whole year. »You have to love this job, otherwise you would not endure the sun«, says Osman with a smile.
