Cycling tour to Mangartsko sedlo

A 12-km long road to Mangarstko sedlo from the crossroad under Predel is known as the highest asphalt road in Slovenia, with a height difference of approx. 1,600 m. Its average incline is a good nine percent, but your efforts are awarded with stunning views of the Julian Alps. For an even greater cycling challenge you can tackle a 350-km king circle from Kranjska Gora via Vršič mountain pass to the Trenta Valley, past Bovec towards Predel Pass to the Italian side past Travision and back to Kranjska Gora.

Cycling through Vršič Pass from Kranjska Gora to Bovec

The Vršič Pass is one of the most “famous” road cycling climbs in Slovenia. You start your climb to this 1,611-m high pass from Kranjska Gora, past a picturesque Jasna Lake and Russian Chapel. After 25 serpentines you are at the pass surrounded by Mojstrovka on one side and the Prisank mountain on the other. You can rest at the Poštarski dom mountain hut where you can gather new strengths for the descent to the Trenta Valley and further cycling along the Soča River to Bovec. The cycling tour is 70 km long with a 900 m climb and a 1,300 m descent. Do not miss the traditional cycling challenge “Juriš na Vršič” in September, which is one of the most popular cycling events in Slovenia.

Around Kamnik-Savinja Alps – Alpine Marathon

The asphalt cycling route starts and finishes in the town of Kamnik and is known as one of the most beautiful and at the same time the most difficult cycling tours. It is 130 km long and takes you through Preddvor to Jezersko Pass, where you descend to Eisenkappel-Vellach in Austria and return to Slovenia via Pavličevo sedlo to picturesque Logar Valley and continue to Kamnik via Kanski Rak. The trail includes three mountain crosses and a climb to 1,000 metres above sea level. If you are tempted by a dynamic road and competitive adrenaline you can join an annual cycling event called the Alpine Marathon race.

Bohinjska Bistrica – Soriška planina – Podbrdo – Most na Soči

The cycling tour connects two picturesque Alpine valley – Bohinj and the Soče Valley. You start in Bohinjska Bistrica, cycle through many turns and enjoy beautiful views of the Julian Alps, the Triglav and Lake Bohinj while climbing to Sorišča Planina pass, a popular Slovenian sports centre and ski resort. From here you descend to Baška grapa and drive past small but pleasant villages all the way to Most na Soči. The total tour lengths is 60 kilometres with a 700 m climb from Bohinj. If you are too tired to cycle back to Bohinjska Bistrica, you can take the train which also has a wagon for bikes.

Circular cycling tour across the Vipava Valley

The Vipava Valley with its mild climate is an excellent cycling destination all year round. The circular cycling tour across the Vipava Valley will reveal the beauties of this fertile valley and offer you magnificent views. You start in Ajdovščina and drive to Vipava, from where you have to climb to Vrhpolje and further to Col. Cycling along the edge of the Trnovo Forest will award you with beautiful views of the Vipava Valley. The road will then take you past Otlice with its famous stone window, over Lokavec and back to Ajdovščina. The entire trail is 45 km long.
