The flavours of Slovenia are flavours of locally produced ingredients. We stand by the principle ‘from the garden to the plate’. Spices and herbs from the nearest garden or meadow, vegetables from the field of Slovenian farmers. We pick mushrooms and berries in the vast forests, milk and dairy products come from the mountains, and honey is sourced from the apiaries of local beekeepers. Dishes that are prepared in countryside taverns and agritourism farms, as well as by renowned chefs in award-winning restaurants, are based on traditional recipes and local specialties. Slovenia is a country where people eat well, and this has been recognised by the renowned Michelin gastronomic guide since 2020. In the current 2025 edition, 72 restaurants have found their place in the Michelin Guide, including nine with Michelin stars. Seven restaurants have one prestigious star each, Milka Restaurant boasts two, while Hiša Franko, run by one of the best chefs in the world, Ana Roš, shines with three stars. There are also restaurants which have been awarded green stars and the Bib Gourmand label, and outstanding individuals who have received special recognition from Michelin.
