Slovenia is accessible for people with reduced mobility and other disabilities, and destinations and providers are striving to make their attractions and experiences as accessible as possible for people with different disabilities. There are still many opportunities to make tourist attractions even more accessible and welcoming.

What is accessible tourism and who is it for?

Accessible tourism is tourism that pays special attention to making tourism attractions and experiences more accessible and welcoming for people with physical and sensory disabilities, people with intellectual and psychological barriers, those travelling with children in prams, the elderly and people who find tourism difficult for other health reasons (diabetes, allergies, heart disease, etc.).

Trains that allow easier access to the carriage are specially marked in the timetables.

By (city) bus

City buses also run around the capital, Ljubljana, and have wheelchair and pushchair access with a lift ramp. Passengers can also get information on routes and arrivals by calling or online. Most of the city's buses are equipped with audio announcements at stops, and individual stops are equipped with tactile floor signs and tactile signs to make the journey as easy as possible for the blind and partially sighted. In Maribor, all public transport vehicles have been adapted to make them more accessible. However, buses can only accommodate one wheelchair at a time, so it is advisable to check availability with the operator before planning your trip.

Their core business is medical rehabilitation in various fields, and their spas have a number of specialists who provide holistic rehabilitation or treatment. Their services are significantly shaped by the natural factors in the environment of each spa – in Dolenjske Toplice and Šmarješke Toplice it is thermal water, and in Talaso Strunjan it is everything connected with the sea: seawater, sea climate, sea mud and salt. The accommodation and other facilities of the centres are accessible to people with physical and other disabilities according to the specific indications of the spas. Certain hotel rooms and other facilities and accesses are adapted to the fullest extent possible. They also adapt their offer to their guests – Terme Krka offers a wide range of health and relaxation services and programmes, allowing them to create varied holiday packages for different target groups of guests. They also cooperate with many associations and societies representing people with disabilities, offering accommodation and treatment packages tailored to their needs, wishes and expectations.
