Did you know that Ljubljana has a festival dedicated purely to street art? It took place for the first time in 2019, and since then, as the first street art festival in Slovenia, it has been considered a unique event that connects actors from the street, artistic and academic circles and promotes street art as one of the most influential artistic movements of the 21st century. For a few summer weeks, Ljubljana turns in the evening and at night into a stage for unusual sculptures, projections and other works with a common denominator... light. The Lighting Guerrilla International Festival has been creating a different image of the capital since 2007 with lighting items and installations bringing contemporary art closer to a broader audience.
Many iconic street art images are a common motif for amateur photographers on Instagram. In Ljubljana, they most often go to Metelkova, the former Rog factory, and also look for recognisable motifs of the artist known as Invader around the city or stop by the Ljubljana central market and Mahr House, which is decorated with murals by Jaša Mrevlje Pollak and Miron Milić.
Advertising space in Slovenian cities is often more than just a place for promotional posters. At TAM-TAM's poster spots, passers-by can often see visually and informatively interesting works as part of a competition for socially responsible posters. In the second largest Slovenian city, special urban areas are dedicated to street art. A few years ago, the first permanent 3D graffiti in the region was created at the Pekarna Cultural Centre, while graffiti and murals can be found throughout the town along the Drava River. Among other things, the city allowed street artists to redecorate the underpass next to Magdalenski Park with wall paintings – this is how the outdoor gallery called "Ob Štreki" was created. While walking around the capital of the Štajerska region, art lovers can also admire the works of renowned artist Petra Varl, such as a mural of lovers for the Faculty of Law.
The Ana Desetnica International Street Theatre Festival will enliven Ljubljana for the twenty-fifth time this year. The festival programme features various forms of street theatre, as well as circus and dance performances, living statues, workshops and other such events.
Art has a special place in Kranj, which is considered the (cultural) capital of the Gorenjska region. Including street art.
