Ljubljana as seen by the visionary architect

The well-rounded trip takes you along the trail of Plečnik's plans and visions, both on land and on the river. On foot and with a guide you will discover piece by piece one of Europe's greatest architects of the 20th century, who provided Ljubljana its eternal beauty and charm. The guided tour in the centre of Ljubljana provides a special insight into his achievements, his grand vision and countless interesting architectural details. He created a land and water axis with masterpieces that are today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also part of the experience puzzle are special features such as a lesson in Plečnik's cabinet, drinking the Master's favourite coffee in an intimate atrium, counting original candelabras, a new VR experience of hard-to-reach masterpieces, etc.

Master Plečnik is ready to invite you to hidden and lesser-known spaces, to open for you the doors to exclusive locations otherwise inaccessible to the general public, and surprise you with a picnic in the garden of Plečnik House.

Did you know?

The architect's original models of unrealised plans are also on display in Plečnik House. Among the most impressive is the avant-garde model for the Slovenian parliament, the Cathedral of Freedom, which, if it had been built, would be the tallest building in the country today, as the tip of its characteristic conical cupola would be 110 metres high.

There is an unwritten rule that architects, like some visual creators and artists, wear black. The dress code of the experience is also black, as our Plečnik was the most famous Man in Black in the history of Slovenia.

Plečnik loved simple vegetable dishes and soups from his home garden. Cigarettes were his only vice. He had a dog called Sivko and later a cat, who were his companions on walks and in the garden.

It was impossible to get to know and domesticate Plečnik fully; he was a loner with few friends and a gruelling schedule from morning to evening, even on Sundays. During the week, he was in the workshop very early, worked in the drawing room or studio for two four-hour sessions, visited craftsmen and also met with students in the meantime.
